President
Founded in 1897, the Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers has been taking important roles in both technological and academic progress of naval architecture and ocean engineering through its own unique research activities and organizing seminars, symposiums and conferences to timely share opinions internationally and to open up the door for the future of shipping industry, shipbuilding industry and so on.
Our those activities include quarterly publishing the Journal of Marine Science and Technology (JMST) and bimonthly ”KANRIN” (bulletin), and continuous devotion to the international academic societies such as International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC), International Ship and Offshore Structure Congress (ISSC) and Pan Asian Association of Maritime Engineering Societies (PAAMES), and cooperative liaison with the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA).
Our society’s mission is to enhance all members’ capabilities along with new comers, young engineers and researchers, in actual engineering field where they can devote their energies to environmentally-more friendly marine transportation and offshore development for prudential utilization of ocean natural resources for coming new age, where human beings total population will increase up to nine billions in 2050 and thereby worldwide seaborne distribution of various kinds of agricultural products, mineral raw materials and other commercial goods will rapidly expand.
These scheme should be fundamentally supported by sound industrial and business foundation, in reality, currently facing serious situation with mixture of drastic fluctuation of global market along with currency exchange rate, gradual increase of fuel cost and also shipbuilding excess capacities especially in Southeast Asian region.
We can attain our fantastic goal by amalgamation of “Wisdom and Device” sprouted from professional knowledge and sense, with both appealing of these creative research and development activities widely and with timely dispatching of valuable information, which are always accomplished by powerful spirit and talent of the individuals fostered in related industries and our Society.
Seeking a futuristic chance in the region of EEZ based upon the “Basic Act for Ocean Policy” enforced in 2007 in Japan, our aiming direction will stimulate the society member’s brain to give productive hints and ideas, deriving the overall benefit to environmental key issues, which surely lead to the strengthening of our brand, “JASNAOE”.
Distinctive outcome will be integrated from the unique research programs managed by our various strategic committees and workshops for each region concerned, and will directly link to constructive proposal submissions to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and so on, as a frontal contribution to the international standard and regulation establishment.
Everybody, let’s join with us and start our challenging steps for the future!
